Rules

In San Diego's city parks, on trails and in canyons, dogs must be on a leash no longer than eight feet until they are inside a posted off-leash area. Dogs need a current license and vaccinations, and you must pick up after your dog. On city beaches and the parks and sidewalks next to them, dogs are not allowed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and in Mission Bay Park from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in winter and to 6 p.m. in summer; outside those hours they must be leashed. Dog Beach in Ocean Beach and Fiesta Island are the exceptions, where licensed dogs may run off leash. (City of San Diego)

Rules and hours can change, and dog parks sometimes close for repairs. Check the signs at the gate.
