Dogs in Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park has four official dog play areas: the fenced Dog Training Area in the northwest corner and open off-leash areas in the northeast, southeast and southwest parts of the park. Everywhere else in the park, dogs must be on a leash (SF Recreation and Parks). Rec and Park does not publish exact boundaries for the open areas, so look for the signs.

The Dog Training Area reopened in 2021 after a renovation and is open from 5 a.m. to midnight. At the west end of the park, Ocean Beach is across the Great Highway, and Park Chalet has dog-friendly tables on its lawn.
