Dogs on the patio, and the rules behind it

Since 2022, Washington's food code has let restaurants allow dogs in their outdoor areas if the business has an approved plan. Your dog must be on a leash or in a carrier, reach the patio without walking through the restaurant, and stay off tables, chairs and benches. Staff are not supposed to touch the dogs (WAC 246-215-06570, Animal Legal & Historical Center). Each place sets its own policy, so if it matters, call ahead.

Seattle's patios are busiest from May to September. In the rainy months, a covered patio or a tavern that lets dogs inside is the easier choice.

Dogs inside

Seattle has an unusual number of bars, taverns, taprooms and cider houses that let dogs come inside: Seapine Brewing Company, Ballard Station Public House, Beer Star White Center, Beveridge Place Pub, Bizarre Brewing, Chuck's Hop Shop Greenwood, Dog Yard Bar, Dogwood Play Park, Fremont Brewing Company, Future Primitive Brewing, Holy Mountain Brewing Phinney Taproom, King's Hardware, Linda's Tavern, Lucky Envelope Brewing, Postdoc Brewing Redmond, Reuben's Brews Ballard Taproom, Stoup Brewing Ballard, The Dray, Twilight Exit, Urban Family Brewing Co., Wildrose, Al's Tavern, Bale Breaker & Yonder Cider Taproom, Chainline Brewing Company, Cloudburst Brewing, Cloudburst Brewing Ballard, Flatstick Pub, Liberty, Martha's Garden, Queen Anne Beerhall, Reunion Malaysian Cafe + Kitchen, Schilling Cider House Seattle, The Hideout, and The Tasting Room. Most of them do not cook their own food, or serve it from a separate kitchen.

Dog bars

A few places combine a bar with an off-leash play area, where dogs play while you have a drink, such as Dogwood Play Park in Lake City and Dog Yard Bar in Ballard. Dog bars usually charge an entry fee or a membership and ask for proof of vaccinations; the note on each place says what the source mentions.

Places with a dog menu

Seapine Brewing Company, Perihelion Brewery, and Pub 70 serve treats or food made for dogs.

Before or after the park

Many of these places are a short walk from an off-leash area. In Ballard, the Golden Gardens off-leash area is a short drive from the breweries, and in West Seattle the bars on California Avenue are near Westcrest Park. See all dog parks in Seattle.
