Can dogs sit inside a café in Austin?
Usually not. Texas law allows dogs in a café's outdoor dining area, not inside the building, and the café must post a sign saying dogs are welcome (Texas Health and Safety Code § 437.025). On our list a source says dogs may come inside only at Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden.
A few tips
- Many coffee shops have no table service. Your dog waits at the outdoor table while you order, so bring a friend or plan for it.
- From May to September, go early and pick a shaded table. Bring water.
- Rules change, and a café that welcomed dogs last year may not this year. If it matters, call ahead.
