The restaurant sits on the grounds of the Grand Pacific Palisades resort near the Flower Fields, with seating both indoors and outside. Karl Strauss describes itself as the oldest continuously operating brewing company in San Diego, and early employees went on to start other local breweries, including Pizza Port. Its Red Trolley Ale won gold at the Great American Beer Festival in 2013, and in 2016 the festival named Karl Strauss its Mid-Size Brewing Company of the Year. Dishes have included a shrimp po' boy with fried pickles and spicy shrimp and grits.
