Mike and Linda McWilliams, originally from the Chicago area, bought San Pasqual Winery in 2009 instead of opening the Champagne bar they had planned for retirement. Linda earned a winemaking certificate from UC Davis, and Mike runs the business side. They opened the La Mesa Village tasting room on December 11, 2009, then moved production into a renovated La Mesa warehouse in 2013 after pushing to change a zoning rule that barred fermentation. The winery makes about 3,000 cases a year.
