Eric Leitstein started Union as a beer-and-bites concept in Encinitas, and in 2014 a second Union Kitchen & Tap was announced for the Gaslamp Quarter in the old Donovan's space on Fifth Avenue. The Encinitas room has decor built from reclaimed materials and outdoor seating. Share plates include wings, bacon mac and cheese and skillet cornbread, and mains run to shrimp and grits, gumbo and burgers, with a vegan burger option.
