Nicole Jacobi and Ben Bate, who already ran Ludwig's German Table in San Jose's historic Germania Hall, opened it in 2019 in the former Bierhaus space, aiming for a more casual, traditional beer garden. Early menus featured imported pretzels, sausage salad, German meats and cheeses and frikadellen.

Gisela Qasim took over in late 2024 to keep the restaurant German, kept the name and has steered the kitchen further toward Bavarian cooking. The garden marks Oktoberfest each fall with its own events.
