Brothers Judd and Matt Braun, who grew up in Ocean Beach, started Blue Water in Mission Hills in 2006 with money from the sale of a family home, and an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2010 brought a surge of customers. The Ocean Beach location sits at Abbott and Santa Monica near the main lifeguard tower, in the former space of Tower Two Beach Café.
It is larger than the original, with booths, community tables, window seats and a covered patio. Fish can be finished blackened, with garlic butter, chipotle or a bourbon butter glaze, and beer is served.
