The name is a play on the town: So-LANA. Owners Mark Wheadon, a sommelier who handles wine, and Travis LeGrand, who previously managed at the Marine Room, Herringbone and Urban Kitchen Group, opened it as their first joint project. McIntyre came back to the United States after about two decades cooking abroad for Wolfgang Puck, with Matt Martinez, formerly of Cowboy Star and Avant, as chef de cuisine.
Workind Studio designed the 5,000-square-foot space in a coastal California style, with cherry and walnut wood, plush booths, eclectic art, a large central bar and a planted outdoor patio.
