Hess moved from a 1.6-barrel setup in a Miramar industrial suite to this Grim Avenue building, a former Bible bookstore, in 2013. The upstairs tasting room has high tables, shuffleboard and dart areas, and catwalks along the facade look down on the brewing equipment. The company says its beers have won more than 50 awards, including at the World Beer Cup, and it now runs six locations around San Diego County.
